Sustainability and Business Strategy Take Center Stage at Meeting with More Than 50 Executives in Las Palmas

On Thursday, March 12, more than fifty executives and experts gathered in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria for the event “Sustainability in Action: Real Impact on Business Models in the Canary Islands”, organized by APD Canarias and the firm Auren, to discuss how to strategically integrate ESG criteria into organizations.

The session was opened by Ángeles Díaz Peralta, Partner at Auren Audit, together with Francisco Javier Torres del Castillo, Director of APD Canarias. Both highlighted the growing importance of incorporating sustainability into business decision-making and the definition of corporate business models.

The event was structured around three panel discussions that addressed different perspectives on the implementation of ESG criteria within the Canary Islands’ business environment.

The first panel, moderated by Juan Francisco Campo, Partner at Auren Legal, examined the evolution of sustainability in family-owned businesses across the archipelago. Participants included María del Mar Araña Hormiga, from Grupo Capisa, and Dhiraj Chhabria, from Fund Grube. They highlighted how the long-term vision and strong local roots typical of these companies facilitate the integration of sustainable criteria into their business strategies.

The second panel, moderated by Rodrigo Gómez Sánchez, Partner at Auren Consulting, together with Ángeles Díaz Peralta, focused on the governance of ESG data and the importance of reliable reporting systems. This session featured Carlos Yánez, from Grupo Félix Santiago Melián, and Juan Luis Santana Perera, from Terminales Canarios, S.L.

The event concluded with a third panel moderated by Amaya Aragón Valor, Partner at Auren Corporate, which explored sustainability as a genuine driver of business value creation. The discussion included Iñaki Muñoz Jiménez, from CaixaBank in the Canary Islands; Javier Onieva, from Nexxus Capital; and Isabel Schmunkamp Caride, from SATOCAN.

The event brought together more than 50 professionals from the corporate and executive sectors, establishing itself as a forum for reflection on the strategic role of sustainability within the Canary Islands’ business landscape.

The organizers thanked the speakers and attendees for their participation, as well as the collaboration of APD Canarias, emphasizing the importance of continuing to promote spaces for dialogue that help advance the real integration of sustainability in businesses.
